Rains or the sea of Rains is a lava plain on the moon. . Which formed because of an asteroid colloiding on the moon in the northwestern hemisphere.
Rains is also called as Imbrium Basin or MareImbrium - In latin Sea of Rains or Sea of Showers.
It had been estimated that the Basin is dating to 4 million years. But it had also got altered in the 4 million years of its existence that is it is now not as flat as it was, when it formed.
It has a diameter of 1146 km making it one of the largest creators in the Solar System and the largest creator on the moon. It is surrounded by three rings of moutains, which range upto 5 to 7 kms in height from the base of the Basin, which makes the Imbrium Basin, 12 km deep.
In the centre of the Basin there had been found a very concentrated amount of gravitational force, which is also called as Mass concentration or MasCon, making it one of the toughest place in the moon to walk.
